Wollux proud supplier of visual communication materials during Davis Cup final

The eyes of the (sports) world were excitedly focused on Ghent in September 2015, and more specifically on “Flanders Expo”, where the final of the Davis Cup tennis between Belgium and Great Britain was disputed, and -alas- ultimately decided in favor of the British, in front of an audience of almost 38,000 spectators.

Andy Murray and our countryman David Goffin amongst others, provided fireworks on the court. But maybe you noticed on the TV footage that around the courts, some members of Agoria's Sports Technology Club were also making waves...

Member companies PRG (light and technique), Veldeman (temporary structures), EVS (media technology), Wollux and Supercolor (visual communication), were Invited to provide ideas on how to stage the prestigious final of the famous tennis tournament.

Diego Algaba, Business Group Leader of the Sports Technology Club, explains: "As soon as it was announced that Belgium would host the finals, we contacted organizers ‘Tennis Vlaanderen’ and ‘Artexis Easyfairs Benelux’ to present them with the skills of the Sports Technology Club member companies. On October 13th, during a special information session at our ‘Stadium Summit’ in Brussels, they could explain their specific needs to our members. This personal contact has resulted in some actual orders."

Their contribution as suppliers to the Davis Cup final constitutes a nice international showcase for the Belgian (technology) companies involved. It had been 111 years since our country had reached the Davis Cup final. The final was broadcast on TV in 158 countries and was followed on social media by more than 570,000 followers.

Diego Algaba: "It is true that Sports Technology so far concentrated its operations mainly on the best-known sporting events such as the Olympic Games and the World Cup. However, with our action around the Davis Cup final we have provided the impetus for broadening our scope to other sports. Not only to tennis, as very recently in Qatar, we have made the first contacts with the organizing committees in charge of organizing events such as the UCI Road Cycling World Championships (2016), the FIG Artistic World Gymnastics Championships (2018) and the IAAF World Championships - Athletics (2019)."
